NP Workers told to stay on the job as Investigation continues

The OWTU’s Central Executive condemns the actions and posture of the Board of National Petroleum Marketing Company in the wake of the NP employees’ call for an enquiry into the operations of the Company and matters incidental thereto. The desperate and paranoiac response of the Seepersad-Bachan led Board has only heightened our suspicions about goings-on at this Company. Allegations of graft, discrimination and questionable dealings at NP have not escaped the web of alleged corrupt practices pervading the public and state-enterprise sectors in Trinidad and Tobago. In such a damning situation, it is a travesty for the Chairman and Board of NP to itself conduct any investigation and audit at the Company. A Seepersad-Bachan Enquiry can and will be nothing less than a self-saving witch-hunt at NP. We condemn her actions and wild statements and dismiss out of hand, charges, which she made against workers and the OWTU.

We demand too that the action taken against the Head, Human Resources Department be withdrawn. We are aware that Seepersad-Bachan desperately wants to be reappointed to the Chairmanship of NP and to perform in that post as an Executive Chairman.

We are aware too that Cabinet at this week’s meeting, is likely to consider the reconstitution of NP’s Board. We call upon and implore Corporation Sole and line Minister, the Minister of Energy to not consider for reappointment any rogue elephant who has trumpeted through NP’s corporate affairs over the past five (5) years.

We make this call in the interest of State-owned NP, its workers and the National interest.

Errol K. Mc Leod
